The Game

Description

This was my first professional project for the Game Industry. Princess Isabella: A Witch’s Curse for the iPad is a Hidden Object Puzzle Adventure Game by Gogii Games, published by Big Fish Games, filled with puzzles and minigames.
The player controls Princess Isabella, who right before her wedding finds out that the castle has been cursed by an evil witch, capturing everyone inside mirrors and transforming every room into a twisted, shadowy version of what it once was.
The player must lift the curse by solving puzzles and finding ways to destroy the evil in each room. The player must achieve this with intelligence and the help of a little fairy with different abilities.

My Role in the Project

In this project, I worked on gameplay programming, fixing bugs, and adding different types of features. Some of these features included gameplay features or features for outside the game, like creating a separate version of the game (freemium) with an in-game store for upgrading the app, the libraries for Big Fish Games, etc.

Working in this game was a very enriching experience. Not only was this my first professional game, but I was the only foreigner in the team. The comments in the engine and the documentation were in a language that I didn’t speak, but this was not a problem and did not stop me from delivering quality work. After a couple of months, I had already learnt to speak the language (Romanian) on an basic level.

Reception and links

The game has been well received, with both the freemium and full versions having four and a half stars and more than 3900 reviews in total.
